The lead programmer for Virtual DJ Studio is Justin "J-Man" Nelson. He is a self-taught computer programmer, and VDJ came out of necessity. As a DJ and Karaoke host, Justin needed reliable software for his DJ gigs. When he started VDJ back in 1997, there were no good DJ programs available at a reasonable price. To this day, there isn't anything like VDJ for the price, especially with the Karaoke features offered by VDJ.By day, Justin writes code for VDJ, maintaining the current version as well as working on VDJ 6.0, the next major release due out later this year.
By night, Justin DJs at a local bar in his home town of Cedar Lake, Indiana, known as Shane's Bar & Grill. He uses an HP Compaq 6230 laptop with a Creative Labs Sound Blaster USB MP3+ audio device. This runs into a Samson MDR-6 mixer, along with his VocoPro UHF-3250 wireless mics. This feeds to a Crown XLS-202 amp, powering two Peavey TLS-5 speakers. He also uses a wireless Phonic powered speaker to cover the other end of the room.
For Karaoke, he hooks the laptop to a small TV, and lets the singers use the wireless mics.
The end result is this: Virtual DJ Studio is written and maintained by someone who actually uses the software in real situations every weekend, so you can expect VDJ to continue to evole to suit a DJ or Karaoke host's needs.
