So You Want To Be A DJ.
What I have found to work really well is to slowly
bring it down over the last three or four songs. Start
toning down the music style – slower, less up-beat
songs – as well as tapering down the volume. If you
do this gradually, people often won't realize you've
stopped playing until you're halfway packed up for the
night.
It's also good to stop taking requests about 30 minutes
before the end of the night. Politely decline requests at
this point, so that you can plan your end game without
a request throwing the music off.
I usually use this time to start packing up things I
won't need for the last 30 minutes. Microphones, an
extra speaker, and any other non-essential items can
be packed up and ready to go home. This also helps
the guests know that the party is coming to an end.
