Feature Suggestions / Some issues and solution requests
« Last post by mnementh on November 01, 2018, 01:24:17 PM »
Hi there,
my first post, so I think a short intro might be an idea.

Name is Sandy
Age is 66
Location in Scotland.
Retired Electronics Technician with a major Comms company.

Previous Karaoke programs include Winamp with various addons (terrible)
Sax'n Dotties (pretty bad as well)
Virtual DJ Pro (does the job but is silly expensive)
Various free programs supplied by Karaoke song providers.
Just Karaoke (Excellent for price and ability)
Karaosoft Karma (best of the lot but resource hungry)

I downloaded Virtual DJ studio and was surprised at how impressed I was with it.

However, I do have some, hopefully solveable, questions.

1) If there is a remaining song time remaining display, I can't find it, either for playlist or Karaoke songs in the request list.
2) Some MP3's simply won't play, either in playlist or lines. However, if I take the kbs down from 320 to 192kbs, all is OK.
3) No FLAC file capability.
4) My 66 year old eyes struggle to read the tiny font in the playlist.

For 4) above, I would cheerfully give up 3 or 4 channel lines to get a wider and hopefully easier to read playlist window.

The one thing that convinced me to try out VDJ Studio was the massive improvement in database logging.

I hope you can find some time to address my points above.

virtually every time i load up VDJ i get a message saying there is a problem loading VDJ and would i like to delete previous playlists

Hi I just saw this, I know you posted it about a month, I'm not tech support as I'm a user like you, but my recent experience with that seems to be related to a song on that playlist.  If the song has been moved or deleted in the time column where the time is you'll see "--:--" somehow VDJ doesn't know how to handle a missing song and it crashes when starting.  If you remove that song from the playlist, it will not crash.

Regarding your other issue, I'm not sure why it would be slow when typing.  I haven't experienced that issue.  What are the specs on the computer you're running?

I like the service. I like the layout. Wished fonts could be enlarged but it works great as a karaoke player and for events like weddings, mma fights and so on. I use the "karaoke players as a way of lining up my specialty dances like first dance, father/daughter and so on. Playlist player on right works great for cocktail music or when you open the dance floor.

>>Every couple of weeks or so, the programme seems to lose all my files, and i have to re index everything again, all 240000 of them.

Do you by any chance have the "Re-index checked folders at startup" checked (see my attached screenshot) and any of the folders you're indexing checked as well?  If so I can see where in series of circumstances this can occur.  For example if you fail to plug in your external hard drive *BEFORE* you start VDJ (Virtual DJ Studio) or if Windows does not detect you external hard drive and these boxes are checked.  This basically means it would re-index those folders when you STARTUP but since your drive was not plugged in or Windows did not detect it it will run the reindex but will not find anything and basically clear out your database of songs.  With an external drive it's best to keep that box unchecked just case you forget to plug in your drive.  Or keep a copy of your vdjdb7.dat file located in "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Next Generation Software\Virtual DJ Studio 2015\" to replace once you make sure the drive is plugged in and being detected.  This file is your complete index and if you keep a copy of it, you don't have to keep re-indexing, you can drop it back in there when necessary.

Helpful Hints, Tips & Tricks / virtual dj studio 2015

Hi there, i wonder if anyone can help me. I am using a laptop with an external hard drive which stores all my karaoke files and music files.

Every couple of weeks or so, the programme seems to lose all my files, and i have to re index everything again, all 240000 of them.

I can still use the programme, but i have to type everything in very slowly, if i dont the laptop freezes and the words on the screen freezes too which as you can imagine is very frustrating.   :(

Any help would be appreciated.

Gary.

Hmm...you may want to send an email to support@vdj.net.  Justin pops in here occasionally, but this forum is mostly user to user support.

I don't use it myself but are you checking the box as shown on my attachment?

Yes, I know how to do it in Audacity or Magix Audio Cleaning Lab, but that entails curstomizing each track I'm interested in. Bleah!
