So You Want To Be A DJ.
Of course you can imagine what I
wanted
to say, but
in the interest of professionalism, I simply said the
following:
Wow, did I just get boo'd. Guys, if you don't
like what I'm playing, please, feel free to come
talk to me. I've been asking for requests all
night, don't be afraid to make a request – I
promise I don't bite!
With that said, the rest of the crowd applauded and
laughed, and the offending group left shortly after.
The bottom line is this: most of the guests are
respectful and don't appreciate the few disrespectful
guests that may show up. Once it has been pointed out
to them, they will realize they are not welcome with
that kind of behavior, and they will find someone else
to harass.
It is rare, but inevitably it will happen, and the most
important thing is to keep your composure and act in a
professional manner. Remember, you're being paid
good money to entertain the crowd. There is no reason
to stoop to their level and risk losing potential work
because of a rude comment made to you. Take the
high road instead, and continue making money doing
what you love to do.
